Practice Areas - Mr. Monk is a trial attorney specializing in tort defense litigation. Areas of particular expertise include: construction accidents, premises liability and security, products liability, general liability and insurance coverage. Mr. Monk also handles white collar criminal litigation and represents corporations in OSHA and other administrative proceedings.
Bar Activities and Publications - Mr. Monk is a member of the New York State Bar where he serves on the Executive Committee of the Torts, Insurance, Compensation Law Section and Chairs the Premises Liability/Labor Law Committee. He was the recipient of the TICL section’s Committee “Chair of the Year Award”, January 2008, for the Premises Liability & Labor Law Committee. Mr. Monk is a member of The Associated General Contractors of America and General Building Contractors of New York State.
Mr. Monk lectured in September, 2008, at the NYSBA sponsored program, “Law School for Insurance Professionals 2008”, on “Premises Liability: Issues & Trends”, and co-authored a chapter on “Liability for Criminal Acts of Third Parties”, for the program materials. The previous year, he lectured on the topic “Contractual and Common Law Indemnity” for the June 2007 NYSBA sponsored program, “Law School for Insurance Professionals.” He was a panelist at the March 2007 Safety Executives of New York Conference on "The Contract Side of Safety". He has lectured on Surveillance at NYSBA CLE program, “Law School for Insurance Professionals,” March, 2006; He was a presenter at GBC’s seminar: “Labor Law 240/241 Managing and Defending The Risk”, November, 2005; State-wide Co-Chair and New York City Panel Chair of NYSBA CLE Program “2005 Update and Overview on Premises Liability,” and speaker on “Interior Premises Liability,” November, 2005. He was Co-Section Chair of NYSBA joint section program of Torts, Insurance & Compensation Law & Trial Lawyer Sections: “Masters in Trial”, NYSBA Annual Meeting, January, 2003. He was State-wide Co-Chair and New York City Panel Chair of NYSBA CLE Program “Construction Work Site and Accident Litigation”, Fall 2003; and Co-State Chair of NYSBA Program “Basics of Premises Liability 2001”. He has also served on the Products Liability Committee and Special Committee on Tort Litigation for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, for which he lectured on Trial Practice.

Biography - Mr. Monk graduated from Colgate University, Cum Laude, in 1976, he attended Boston College Law School, graduating Cum Laude in 1980. During law school, he interned at the Organized Crime Strike Force of the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York. Mr. Monk served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Trial Division of the New York County District Attorney’s Office from 1980 to 1984, during which time he was appointed to the Special Narcotics Prosecutors Office. Upon leaving the District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Monk joined the firm of Jones Hirsch Connors & Bull, where he became a partner in 1989. He joined Harrington, Ocko & Monk as a partner in 1996.
